Jointly with my colleagues Laurent Castillo (EPP), Biljana Borzan (S&D) and Tilly Metz (The Greens/EFA) I would like to cordially invite you to attend the event

Nutrition as Prevention: How healthier diets can prevent cardiovascular disease, AMR, diabetes, and cancer
4 February 2025, 10:00 – 12:00
European Parliament, ASP 5F385 & online
followed by a networking lunch

With the European Commission’s vision on Agriculture and Food coming up in February and the European Board on Agriculture and Food being formed as we speak, we would be very pleased if you joined this very timely event.

Unhealthy nutrition is a major contributor to the disease burden in the EU and a huge drain on national health budgets as it more and more leads to cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. On top of this the (over-) use of antimicrobials in food systems can severely affect human health by contributing to the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). As food systems and health topics are so closely linked, we call for better integration of the voice of health in agri-food debates.

The event will bring together health experts from different disciplines to discuss how healthier diets can prevent cardiovascular disease, AMR, diabetes and cancer. This will be followed by a broader panel discussion on which role Europe could play in preventing unnecessary deaths and diseases by empowering our citizens and staying true to its “One Health” approach.

Besides MEPs from different political groups, we feature speakers from the World Health Organization, DG SANTE, retail industry representatives and civil society actors.
