ÖDP petition in defense of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act

In a plenary session in February 2024, the European Parliament approved the EU Commission's proposal to authorize so-called new genetic engineering.

Following the biodiversity referendum "Save the bees" initiated by the ÖDP, a ban on agricultural genetic engineering was included in the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act.

The Bavarian state government should therefore make full use of its influence to ensure compliance with Bavarian laws and avert the approval of new genetic engineering after all.

Without nature, no farmers, no food

Our farmers are the backbone of our food supply. They work tirelessly to provide us with fresh food every day. That is why it is important that farmers earn a fair income and receive sustainable support from EU agricultural policy. The bureaucratic burden should also be reduced while at the same time protecting nature.

Because agriculture and nature go hand in hand.

Ban glyphosate now! To protect our nature

Glyphosate, produced by Bayer-Monsanto, is a pesticide that is used even though we know that it has a devastating effect on biodiversity: Glyphosate kills (almost) everything.

The use of glyphosate is not necessary for profitable farming; weeds can also be controlled by other means. Glyphosate should therefore be banned.

Against factory farming and for an EU-wide quality seal

Our petition has been signed by more than 114,500 people (as of May 2022) and is directed against factory farming and calls for a uniform EU quality seal with regular checks on the type of animal husbandry, antibiotic treatment, animal feed and the total herbicides used. The seal could indicate the farming conditions in three grades.

Fur Free Europe (Fur Free Europe)

Animal welfare cannot be guaranteed in fur farms. No animal should live in a cage - keeping wild animals in cages is deeply cruel.

It is ethically unacceptable to breed and kill animals solely for the purpose of fur production.

The numerous outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 on mink farms have shown that there are veterinary public health risks associated with fur production.

Riparian forest instead of asphalt

The Auwald statt Asphalt campaign alliance aims to protect and preserve the valuable alluvial forest and the English Garden. The alluvial forest is an important recreational area and, as an FFH conservation area, home to many endangered animals.

However, a planned route would destroy this alluvial forest.

Save bees and farmers!

Together, we were able to collect more than 1.2 million signatures for bee-friendly agriculture and a healthy environment.

It is now up to the EU Commission to support agriculture that reconciles the needs of farmers and nature.

Stop Finning EU

Every year, between 63 and 273 million sharks die as a result of fishing. These figures are probably underestimated, as there is a lack of reliable data and the global number of unreported cases due to illegal fishing is extremely high. Sharks are hunted worldwide mainly for their fins. These are eaten as shark fin soup, especially in Asia. I support the call for a ban on the trade in shark fins in Europe.

Don't let Icelandic ponies bleed for pig fattening any more!

More than 5000 Icelandic ponies have to bleed for the production of cheap pork in the EU. The hormone PMSG (Pregnant Mares Serum Gonadotropin) is mainly used in pig breeding to make work easier so that sows can have their piglets at the same time. The blood is obtained from pregnant mares. There are alternative methods in pig breeding that do not require horse blood.

Citizens' initiatives,
which I support

European Citizens' Initiative Save bees and farmers!

The European Citizens' Initiative "Save bees and farmers!" follows on from the Bavarian referendum on species protection. 1.2 million signatures were collected, giving a voice to people who want to see a change in the system that benefits everyone: Not only our environment, but also farmers and consumers.

European citizens' initiative Stop 5G

In November 2021, the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) "Stop (((5G)))) Stay Connected but Protected" was officially registered with the EU. The ECI is committed to protecting the environment, life and privacy. I call for an independent, neutral evaluation of the potential risks of 5G.

European citizens' initiative for animal cruelty-free cosmetics

With the EU ban on cosmetics testing on animals, a Europe was promised in which animals would no longer have to suffer and die for cosmetics. This promise has been broken. The authorities still require animal testing for the ingredients used in cosmetics, which goes against the expectations and wishes of the public and the intention of the legislators.
