The ÖDP's most original demand was accepted: The right to repair!

Putting an end to the throwaway culture - one of the most fundamental demands of the ÖPD, the right to repair has been accepted!

The new EU measures will enable consumers to use products for longer by giving them easier access to repair options and an expanded range of used and refurbished products. This will finally tackle unnecessary waste and wastage of valuable resources.

The ÖDP has been fighting for repairable and durable products for years! In Germany alone, over 100,000 tons of appliance waste are generated every year. With today's vote, we have taken a decisive step towards a resource-efficient circular economy at EU level!
But that's not all, today there were further and important votes for environmental and consumer protection and protection of our resources:
The Ecodesign Regulation, which was also agreed today, ensures that products in the EU must become more sustainable and creates a framework for greater reparability. The ban on the destruction of unsold clothing from "fast fashion" is also another important step towards curbing the consumption of resources.

In addition, a regulation on the prevention of plastic pellets was passed to drastically reduce environmental pollution from plastic pellets and reduce the release of microplastics!

Incidentally, Parliament has also passed another regulation to better classify and more clearly label toxic and hazardous chemicals. Consumers have a right to protection from chemical hazards!

These new regulations finally set out concrete steps to ensure greater environmental, consumer and nature protection in Europe and to enable a genuine and sustainable circular economy.
