As Greens/EFA shadow rapporteur for the Soil Monitoring Directive, I was delighted to have opened a webinar on reducing soil sealing, organized by the German Environment Agency and the Öko-Institut!
It is alarming that 70% of our soils in Europe are in a poor state. We must therefore take urgent action!
This webinar could not be more timely, as we are currently facing crucial negotiations on the Soil Monitoring Directive in the Environment Committee. I am committed to ensuring that this directive becomes a strong soil protection law!
With my amendments, I am striving for concrete steps to reduce soil sealing and reuse fallow land. It is time to effectively protect our forests, meadows and farmland from sealing.
I am determined to fight for an ambitious law and I hope that we will be able to adopt the European Parliament's position in April before the European elections.
