Meeting with representatives of Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (DUH)

I was pleased about the recent exchange with representatives of Deutsche Umwelthilfe on the topic of sustainable and environmentally friendly expansion of offshore wind energy.

Our oceans play an indispensable role for life on Earth: they provide food, produce oxygen, store carbon dioxide and regulate our climate.

The expansion of offshore wind energy is undoubtedly a key component of the European energy transition. At the same time, however, it must be ensured that the ecological functions of marine ecosystems are preserved. This requires close cross-border cooperation in order to effectively shape marine spatial planning, strengthen the protection of biodiversity and simplify approval procedures.

The goal is clear: to reconcile the transition to green energy with the protection of marine biodiversity - a challenge that we must all rise to!
