Pupil discussion Democracy

To mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law and the European elections in 2024, the German Embassy in Brussels organized a workshop for schoolchildren on the topic: Democracy - what's it to us?

Together with Martin Kotthaus, the German Ambassador to Belgium, and Oliver Paasch, the Prime Minister of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, we answered the students' questions.

The timing could not have been better. In times of crisis, the outcome of the US elections, the election results in eastern Germany and the collapse of the Ampel coalition, it is clear that democracy cannot be taken for granted, but is a valuable asset that we must protect and actively shape - in every election and in every conversation!
