Brussels, June 4, 2024 - The European elections next Sunday, June 9 , 2024, will have a decisive impact on the future fate of Europe. Democracies are in danger within European states, but also in the EU as a whole. Democracies can only survive with the active support of the citizens who support them. That is why this election is so crucial, because it can send out a signal for a strong European democracy!

The election will also be fundamental for the future European Commission. It is the last Commission before important climate protection targets are reached in 2030. It is now important to implement the climate protection measures that have been agreed. The flood of the century in Saarland as well as the floods in Bavaria and Baden- Württemberg have shown us all how serious the situation is. 

For voters in the Saarland, there is a very special strategic challenge: Who will represent the Saarland in the European Parliament?

In the last legislative period, Manuela Ripa, MEP for the ÖDP, was the only MEP from the Saarland to take on this role. She stood up for the interests of her home region and demonstrably represented the interests of the Saarland. 

"It was an honor but also a pleasure to fight for many concerns of my homeland, to present the Saarland as a sustainable tourism region in the European Parliament, but also to receive many visitors from the beautiful Saarland in Strasbourg and Brussels," says Manuela Ripa about her commitment

She will most likely also be the only representative of the Saarland in the European Parliament in the coming legislative period. The reason for this is the constellation of the party lists with the corresponding placements of Saarland candidates. It is sobering to see that all other Saarland candidates have no promising places and that re-election is therefore all the more important in order to represent the Saarland. Voting for the Saarland candidate is therefore of strategic importance. 

"I am well aware of my responsibility for the coming legislative period. Anyone who doesn't know me yet can talk to me at the ÖDP information stand in the center of Saarbrücken opposite Karstadt on Saturday, 8 June 2024," says Manuela Ripa, referring to the final spurt in the election campaign.

As last weekend, the MP will also be holding talks with citizens at Bahnhofstrasse 15 in Saarbrücken this coming Saturday.
