Europe needs more digital sovereignty

This week, I co-signed a cross-party written question to the European Commission in which we MEPs call for a clear statement on the reports of possible interference by Platform X in the German parliamentary elections. It is crucial to create transparency and ensure that social media is not misused to influence democratic processes. Our democracy must not be jeopardized by recommendation algorithms.

At the same time, we should take the opportunity to promote European platforms more strongly. These platforms, which are "Made in Europe", adhere to our values - data protection, freedom of expression and transparency. They should offer a real alternative to the large, often non-transparent tech companies from overseas.

What do you think? Shouldn't Europe invest more in its digital sovereignty and at the same time ensure that democratic processes remain protected?
