The EU Commission is in danger of breaking a key promise and prolonging the suffering of countless animals. Over 1.4 million citizens are calling for an end to cage farming, 1.5 million for a ban on fur farming. Together with the Parliamentary Intergroup for Animal Welfare and @animalsociety.de, we are fighting for these voices to be heard.

Before the European elections and the start of a new Commission, we must ensure that animal welfare does not fall by the wayside. We demand an EU Commissioner for Animal Welfare, because:

1) Animal welfare is a European concern - animals are sentient beings whose welfare must be protected by law.

2) Legal changes are urgently needed - many animals are still subjected to great suffering today.

3) Economic interests must not be allowed to block animal welfare - we need a strong advocate in the EU.

4) Concrete help for animals - an EU Commissioner for Animal Welfare can bring about the necessary changes.
