06 June Delegation trip to Los Angeles with the Cultural Committee
Last week, I was in Los Angeles, United States, as a member of the Culture Committee. The aim of the trip was to find out about the impact of AI and other digital, transformative technologies and innovations on the cultural and creative industries and the news media sector.
The visits to companies in the film and music industry and to trade unions representing cultural professionals were particularly impressive. We discussed the topic of "artificial intelligence" in depth with the managers of these companies. What opportunities does AI offer for the creative industry? What risks need to be considered - for example with regard to copyright, creative originality or the future of jobs? I was impressed by the openness and seriousness with which these questions were discussed.
Another important item on the program was the discussion with Laura Friedman, a Democratic member of the Californian parliament. Here, too, the focus was on the topic of AI in the cultural and media world. We also talked about the social and political situation in the USA, particularly with regard to cultural policy, democratic participation and the challenges of a deeply divided country.
All in all, it was a very informative and inspiring trip that opened up many new perspectives. In the coming days, I will be reporting on some of the special impressions and peculiarities that I encountered on site on social media. After all, Los Angeles has many other surprising things to offer in addition to its charm. Stay tuned!
