12 Nov. COP 29 in Baku
The 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) began yesterday in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The focus is on climate financing and the definition of a new collective quantified target (NCQG) for climate financing, which is to replace the previous target of 100 billion US dollars per year.
Significantly more money and more consistent implementation of the financing are needed!
Developing countries, which often suffer particularly from the consequences of climate change, must be given more support in coping with climate change. At the same time, economically strong countries such as China and the major oil exporters must be held more accountable.
Especially now, after the re-election of Donald Trump as the next President of the United States of America, who withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement during his first term in office and is threatening to roll back further environmental regulations, international cooperation to reduce emissions is more important than ever.
We must pursue our goals more vigorously and not allow the global climate protection agenda to be thwarted by people like Trump.
